Juneteenth

I’m all for a reason to celebrate something, but if I was to pick a new holiday, it wouldn’t be this one. Especially with the undertone in which it was created.

I’m sure you remember George Floyd, BLM riots and the ‘black national anthem’. Yep, that’s the undertone I’m talking about. Juneteenth is the icing on that violent radical cake.

Juneteenth has been a thing in Texas for a long time. I only know that from when I was stationed there back in the ’80s, but it really wasn’t a big deal. There weren’t any parades, and they didn’t shut the state down as far as I remember.

It’s a Texan thing, and they have every right to it since it’s celebrating the state’s end to slavery. The rest of the nation was already on board with the Emancipation Proclamation. A federal holiday? Nope.

Juneteenth is just a result of Congress capitulating to activists in the midst of high racial tensions with little to no thought given to the nation as a whole.

Just wanted to get that off my chest, so I’ll keep this one short and end it here.

You’re welcome.
